Why Your Scalp Routine Is the Foundation of Hair Growth
You can use the best products in the world, but if your scalp isn't getting the attention it needs, your hair growth will always hit a ceiling. The scalp is where every strand of hair originates — it's living tissue that needs consistent nourishment, circulation, and care to produce healthy hair.
A scalp oiling routine is one of the most effective things you can add to your regimen. Here's exactly how to do it right.
What You'll Need
- A nourishing scalp oil (we recommend our Extreme Growth Oil — formulated with Ayurvedic botanicals designed to stimulate follicles and promote growth)
- A rat-tail comb or pintail comb for parting
- Hair clips to section your hair
- A scalp massager (optional but highly recommended)
- A satin bonnet or scarf if doing an overnight treatment
Step 1: Start on Clean or Lightly Product-Free Hair
You don't need to start with freshly washed hair every time, but avoid applying oil over heavy product buildup. Excess product creates a barrier between the oil and your scalp, reducing absorption. If it's been a few days since your last wash, do a quick scalp check — if you can see visible flaking or buildup, consider washing first.
Step 2: Part and Section Your Hair
Divide your hair into 4–6 sections using clips. The number of sections will depend on your hair's thickness and density — the goal is to make every part of your scalp accessible without missing any spots. Start from the nape and work your way forward.
Step 3: Apply Oil Directly to Your Scalp
Using a dropper or the applicator tip of your bottle, apply your growth oil directly along each part, moving in a zig-zag pattern. Use about 3–5 drops per section — you want enough to cover the scalp without over-saturating the roots. Focus extra attention on areas where growth has been slower: edges, crown, and nape.
Our Extreme Growth Oil is specifically crafted for this step — lightweight enough to absorb without greasiness, but potent enough to deliver real results.
Step 4: Massage for 5–10 Minutes
This is the most important step. Scalp massage increases blood flow to your follicles, which means more nutrients reaching the roots. Use your fingertips (not your nails) in small, firm circular motions. Work across your entire scalp, spending extra time on slower-growth areas.
If you have a scalp massager, now's the time to use it. Studies have shown that even 4 minutes of daily scalp massage can lead to measurable improvements in hair thickness over time.
Step 5: Choose Your Timing
You have two options, both effective:
- 30–60 minute pre-wash treatment: Apply oil, massage, then wash your hair as normal. Great for wash days.
- Overnight treatment: Apply oil in the evening, cover with a satin bonnet, and wash in the morning. This gives maximum absorption time and tends to produce faster results.
Pick whichever works best for your schedule and stick with it consistently.
Step 6: Seal in Moisture After Washing
After washing, your hair is clean and ready to absorb moisture. Apply a water-based leave-in or moisturizer, then seal the strands with our Grow & Length Retention Duo to lock in hydration and protect against breakage between washes.
How Often Should You Oil Your Scalp?
Aim for 2–3 times per week as a baseline. More frequent if your scalp tends to be dry, less frequent if you're prone to product buildup. The key is regularity — consistency compounds over time, and results become noticeable around weeks 6–8.
